Flooding in the Pacific Northwest
Another November… another flood.
Today the Skagit River closed the
bridge into Mount Vernon, keeping me from my art class. Sandbagging continues on the
other side of the bridge to protect the retail shops downtown.
Yesterday I placed art materials, books and equipment at a local school
onto tables to keep them out of the reach of rising floodwaters.
A dear student of mine recently moved back to India… and a scarcity
of art supplies. She very carefully packed every precious brush, tube of paint and
paper.
The loss or threat of loss reminds me of the gift and privilege art
truly is. I’m grateful for my materials and supplies... and for my students.

Fall Is For...
Every fall surprises me. My teaching schedule explodes and painting
ekes out time for itself in the evenings and in-between moments. Lately, I’ve found
myself painting a series of miniatures when inspiration strikes.
The business of art
takes a back seat in those delightful moments and I revel in the sheer joy of the
precious painting experience. Oh, how I love to paint!

On the Rocks
